Headquarters of Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) in Addis Ababa, capital of #Ethiopia expected to be completed by December this year. Constructed and funded by #China, the 90,000 m2 landmark project, including offices, laboratories and facilities is expected to be completed within 25 months after commence end of 2020.

The $ 80 million project is the first phase with five regional Africa CDC centres scheduled to be constructed in #Egypt, #Gabon, #Kenya, #Nigeria and #Zambia during coming years.
On Jan 31, 2017, heads of states and governments of the #AfricanUnion and the leadership of the African Union Commission officially launched the Africa CDC in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

The Africa CDC infrastructure initiative was once a USA-Africa collaboration development but among others the suspension of #USA aid to #WHO during Trumpโs presidency made the African Union turn towards China for the construction and development of health infrastructure in #Africa.

The Africa CDC infrastructure is a major step forward in organization for coordination and dealing with disease threats such as ebola, tuberculosis, malaria or pandemics like #COVID19 on the African continent.
