An early blossom, rushing for spring....

๐๐ฏ ๐ฆ๐ข๐ณ๐ญ๐บ ๐ด๐ฑ๐ณ๐ช๐ฏ๐จ ๐ฃ๐ญ๐ฐ๐ด๐ด๐ฐ๐ฎ this year at the Wuhan University. The campus is considered one of the most beautiful sites for cherry blossoms in China, usually in full bloom mid-March. But this year the trees already started to blossom last weekend, not being able to wait for a new spring ๐



๐๐ต๐ฒ๐ฟ๐ฟ๐ ๐ฏ๐น๐ผ๐๐๐ผ๐บ is not the first blossom in China though. Plum blossom starts late January, early February in central China, and even early January in southern parts.


๐ฃ๐น๐๐บ ๐ฏ๐น๐ผ๐๐๐ผ๐บ (ๆข ่ฑ, Mei hua) is one of the most beloved flowers in China and has been frequently depicted in Chinese art and poetry since centuries, blooming most vibrantly amidst the winter snow with ethereal elegance. The plum blossom is seen as a symbol of winter and a harbinger of spring, expressing ๐ฑ๐ฆ๐ณ๐ด๐ฆ๐ท๐ฆ๐ณ๐ข๐ฏ๐ค๐ฆ, ๐ฉ๐ฐ๐ฑ๐ฆ, ๐ณ๐ฆ๐ด๐ช๐ญ๐ช๐ฆ๐ฏ๐ค๐ฆ ๐ข๐ฏ๐ฅ ๐ต๐ณ๐ข๐ฏ๐ด๐ช๐ต๐ช๐ฐ๐ฏ.



The plum blossom is regarded as one of the "๐๐๐ง๐๐ ๐๐ง๐๐๐ฃ๐๐จ ๐ค๐ ๐๐๐ฃ๐ฉ๐๐ง" ( ๅฒๅฏไธๅ), along with pine and bamboo. The flower is also one of the "๐๐ค๐ช๐ง ๐๐๐ฃ๐ฉ๐ก๐๐ข๐๐ฃ" (ๅๅๅญ) plants in Chinese art and poetry together with the orchid, chrysanthemum and bamboo.
