The Baihetan hydropower station is equipped with sixteen 1-gigawatt (GW) turbines, making it the second largest hydropower generator in China and the world, behind only the Three Gorges Project, also on the Yangtze river. The plant is estimated to generate 62.44 billion kilowatt-hour (kWh) annually which will save about 90.45 million tons of coal a year and cut annual carbon dioxide emissions by 248.4 million tonnes.

The renewable energy production base can supply 4.5 billion kilowatt hours of green electricity a year to Guangdong province. This will reduce traditional energy use by 1.45 million tons of standard coal and cut carbon dioxide emission by 3.5 million tons.
