  • One of China's 4 municipalities under the direct administration of the central government of the People's Republic of China (along with #Beijing, #Shanghai and #Tianjin).


  • One of China's three furnaces (火炉) referring to the especially hot and oppressively humid summer weather in major cities in the Yangtze River Valley (along with #Nanjing and #Wuhan). Others talk about 4 or 7 furnaces (including Changsha, Hangzhou, Nanchang or Shanghai). Anyway Chongqing is definitely one of the furnaces and the city even adds another dimension being a furnace, their signature spicy #hotpot



  • Known as Mountain City due to its mountainous rugged terrain and steep gorges, and City of Fog with many foggy days during spring and autumn.


  • Wartime capital during the during the period of the Chinese People’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression 1937-1945.



  • Official abbreviated as "Yú" (渝), Chongqing area was the cradle of the ancient Ba Kingdom and Bayu culture more than 3000 years ago.
