Earlier this month a 30 cm snowfall turned Shuangfeng Forest Farm in the countryside of Mudanjiang prefecture (牡丹江市) in Heilongjiang province into a winter fairytale land.

Located about a 1,500km drive North-East from Beijing (and 250km NW from Russia's Vladivostok), Shuangfeng Forest Farm has become a popular tourist destination in recent years, dubbed 𝗖𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗮'𝘀 𝗦𝗻𝗼𝘄 𝗧𝗼𝘄𝗻. Covered with snow up to 6 months a year, the town is known for its beautiful scenery.

The 𝗡𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗵-𝗘𝗮𝘀𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝗖𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗮 is paving ways for increasing (eco-)tourism and ecological protection in more than one way. 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗯𝗮𝗶𝘀𝗵𝗮𝗻 or Changbai Mountain with the Heavenly crater lake (UNESCO) at the border with North Korea, ski resorts, and natural reserves including the formal establishment last month of a huge national park with an area of 15,000 km2 spreading in #Heilongjiang and #Jilin provinces to protect among other species the 𝗦𝗶𝗯𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗮𝗻 𝗧𝗶𝗴𝗲𝗿 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗔𝗺𝘂𝗿 𝗟𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗮𝗿𝗱 are some examples.
