Earlier this year, Beijing's first "cycling only highway" was opened, connecting the busy Huilonguan urban district and the Zhongguancun high tech area in Northern Beijing.

The three lanes bicycle-only road, which has been designed by the Beijing Municipal Commission of Transport, is 6.5 km long and offers 6,000 to 8,000 daily commuters safe and fast traveling.

Cycling highways are considered as a complement to on ground cycling and are being implemented in various Chinese cities (such as Beijing or Xiamen).
