Considered a game and dance in different ethnic minorities in China. The game and dance is believed to have originated from 黎族 or the Li Minority with majority of its population living on Hainan island but variations are as well seen in minority areas of Guanxi Zhuang Autonomous Region in the South of China.

Bamboo stick dances or games also have an ancient heritage in the Philippines called Tinikling, a national dance.
