Special ticket-vending machines have been installed over the last year in several Beijing subway stations where you can insert your empty beverage bottles instead of money.

The bottles are first scanned to determine their value depending on the plastics’ quality and weight. After you can select to upgrade your public transportation credit or your mobile phone credit.
