You can refresh your blanket with new cotton from Xinjiang or wool from Inner Mongolia, or let new sheets stitched on your blanket. Or of course buy a complete new blanket. The quilter usually stays for a couple of weeks during second half of November. I thought at first a little late as it is already cold for some time now but I believe he made the right choice to arrive after Singles's Day (or Double 11), China's (and world's) largest largest online shopping festival, not giving the residents the idea to buy a new blanket online ๐

Blankets have meaningful symbolism and considered a valuable, personal belonging. Rightfully so, a warm, cozy and comfortable cover at night is a basic comfort for a good sleep. Moreover in Northern China's countryside, central heating is not in place everywhere and winters can be rough and cold.

For weddings in China, the bride's family generally provide beautiful and often still own hand-made blankets to the newly-wed couple and the millions of mobile migrant workers usually bring their own blankets along wherever they are stationed to work.
During Spring Festival or Chinese New Year, squid is usually avoided as a dish as frying squid rolls up like a blanket, meaning you have to pack your bags (and rolling up your blanket...) after the Spring Festival holidays as there is no work anymore.
